How it was done, the image of entry to UBIK's portal, Venezuelan Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy
Saludos.
Jorge De Abreu”.
One evening of September 30, 2008, I received an e-mail from Jorge De Abreu's that said the following:
" Hello, Ramon.
Your mail, Susana Sussmann passed it to me because I asked her for a recommendation of her an illustrator for the digital magazine Ubikverso that I edit. In addition I already had news of you from another source. When I was compiling information for my article about the Venezuelan CF, Yilly Arana gave me enough information as well as copies of the magazine that you were publishing in Valencia: Nostromo.
The situation is the following: Ubikverso has two types of illustrations, which they are realized by artists that I invite to participate. An illustration corresponds to the cover and another illustration is the one that I name of entry, which goes on the first page of the magazine, next to the index, and has a brief presentation of its author. You can see examples in the previous numbers of Ubikverso: http: // ubikverso.avcff.org.
I need an illustration for the entry, with relative urgency, for Ubikverso N ° 3 since I am already designing the texts for this number. The illustration does not need to be specially prepared for this number, but it must be related to the fantastic subject matter (CF, fantasy and terror, in this order of preference). I hope that you have some illustration available and that you want to collaborate with the magazine. Also I trust I can count on you in the future (to your convenience and comfort, certainly) for other publishing projects, including, but not limiting itself, to Ubikverso and Necronomicón (http: // necronomicon.avcff.org)
Regards.
Jorge De Abreu ".

Of this urgency, only Hummingbird-Ship went out to save the homeland, which you can see in this blog or in the pages of the number three of Ubikverso. I put here the link for anyone to download the number:

My comment:
But the thing did not stay there. By own initiative I looked on the marvellous logo designed by William Trabacilo that we can see in the Figure 1.

Figura 1 (Figure 1)
Figura 2.
The Hardware store:
I've had an idea that I could do this logo in third dimension using my favorite program of 3D animation: LightWave 3D 9.5 of NewTek company.
For it it was necessary to have a vectorial drawing of the logo done by Trabacilo. I opened the program of vectorial drawing CorelDraw 12 and placed Trabacilo's logo on a sheet size A4. Figure 2.

Figura 2 (Figure 2)

With the tool Hand lifted I devoted myself to "trace" the whole logotype. For the letters " UBIK AD INFINITUM " I used the tool of text. I assured myself that all the lines should coincide, in order to have a geometric work of precision. important step at the moment of exporting this vectorial file to LightWave 3D. In the Figure 3 we can see the already traced drawing, everything in black. Until here the vectorial work with the CorelDraw 12.

Pasamos ahora a LightWave 3D 9.5.
We pass now to LightWave 3D 9.5. This program has a characteristic that separates it from the rest of the 3D programs that exist: Has two environments of work.
The Modeler: Where you model the 3D objects and save them. It does the role of storing objects that will then be in use in a scene.
The Layout: The scene where the objects made in the Modeler are placed. We open the Modeler and with the EPSF Loader and extrusion tools construct the logo in third dimension that we see in the Figures 4 and 5. We save our object and close the Modeler.

Figura 5 (Figure 5)
Now we open the Layout and import the 3D logo realized in the Modeler. There we arrange the lights and the "backdrop", a photography that contains the image of a galaxy in strong red color.
Then we add five lights that will do of stars at the bottom of the galaxy, with different intensities and effects of light. Realized this montage, we pass to put textures to 3D logo 3D of UBIK. We choose a texture of stainless steel of light gray color with a slight touch of blue.
I hope you like it.
